Following the success of the first mill, CV Engineering was selected as the lead engineering partner for Big River Steel’s 3.6 million ton-per-year expansion with Mini Mill #2. This facility was constructed adjacent to the existing operation in Osceola, Arkansas.
Planning
Leveraging institutional knowledge from Mini Mill #1, we planned a 1.6-million-square-foot Cold Mill Complex. The planning focused on creating a seamless interface between the new facility and the existing mini mill infrastructure.
Design / Construction
The engineering scope encompassed a full suite of advanced processing lines, including a pickling line, tandem cold mill, and automated coil storage. We delivered 35kV plant power distribution, piling and foundation systems for major equipment, and all process piping and electrical systems.
Results
The expansion provided Big River Steel with enhanced capacity to produce flat-rolled products for demanding automotive and construction markets. Our involvement ensured consistent design quality and efficient coordination across the multiple mills.
