Big River Steel – Mini Mill #1

As the prime engineering company, CV Engineering delivered Big River Steel’s landmark 3.2 million ton-per-year flat rolling facility in Osceola, Arkansas. This 1,300-acre greenfield mega-project showcased our ability to manage multidisciplinary services for one of the most technologically advanced mills built in recent decades.

Planning
The project required detailed planning for a continuous, high-volume production flow. Our scope encompassed site development, including roads and railroad infrastructure, underground utilities, and power systems to support the integrated steelmaking process.

Design & Construction
We provided comprehensive engineering for the Hot Mill Complex, which features thin slab casting and direct rolling technology and a versatile Cold Mill Complex with a continuous pickle line and tandem cold mill. Our technical delivery included auger piling, mill building structural design, process steel structures, and complex process piping and electrics.

Results
The project progressed through successful construction and commissioning, resulting in what became the most profitable steel mill in the United States. Our involvement ensured the facility achieved significant advantages in energy consumption, yield, and product consistency.
