CV Engineering provided construction engineering services for the installation of a Merchant Bar Quality (MBQ) Mill at Nucor Steel Kankakee in Bourbonnais, Illinois. The project established a production capacity of 500,000 tons per year, expanding Nucor’s long products portfolio.
Planning
The facility was engineered to produce a diverse range of long steel products, including merchant bar, light shapes, and structural angles and channels. Planning activities spanned the full scope of disciplines required to integrate a high-capacity rolling mill into an existing operation.
Design & Construction
The engineering scope included comprehensive site development, underground utilities, and power distribution systems. We delivered designs for building and equipment foundations, process piping, and electrical systems, ensuring all auxiliary equipment adhered to Nucor’s standards for reliability.
Results
The MBQ Mill was successfully integrated, delivering seamless operations and high safety standards. This project demonstrated our expertise in bar and structural steel rolling mills across a range of product types.
