As the prime engineering company, CV Engineering delivered the 1,400-acre greenfield flat rolling facility for Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI) in Columbus, Mississippi. This remains one of the most comprehensive and complex steel mill assignments in our firm’s history.
Planning
The project required a fully integrated design for both Hot Mill and Cold Mill complexes. Planning involved extensive site work, railroad track design, and the detailed engineering of a comprehensive water system to support end-to-end production.
Design & Construction
We provided multidisciplinary engineering across the entire facility, including two electric arc furnaces, vacuum tank degassers, and thin slab casters. The Cold Mill design featured continuous and push-pull pickle lines, galvanizing lines, and annealing furnaces. Our scope included everything from building structural steel to complex cooling water systems.
Results
The facility achieved a complete, end-to-end production capability, supplying finished and coated products to the construction, automotive, and appliance markets. This project stands as a defining example of our ability to execute mega-scale, integrated mills from concept through completion.
